EFOMW participated at the Equinet conference, hosted by the Belgian Institute for the Equality of Women and Men in Brussels 7th December 2016.
The conference gathered senior experts from National Equality Bodies, as well as from EU and international institutions and agencies, representatives from NGOs, national ministries, NHRIs and Ombudsman institutions, policy and legal experts, social partners and other organisations active in the field of equality.
The aim of the conference was to:
- Provide a platform to discuss the challenges in promoting an intersectional approach to equality and in litigating intersectional discrimination
- Present the conclusions of the 2016 Equinet Perspective “Innovating at the Intersections – Equality Bodies Tackling Intersectional Discrimination”
- Set out a vision for future work to promote an intersectional approach to equality and to combat intersectional discrimination.
This event reflects also the need for Muslim women organisations to actively engage with a variety of stakeholders, such as the feminist movement and in gender-equality struggle, in order to contribute to the understanding of the intersectionality of gender discrimination, to allay our voices and be stronger together.
