  • Launch event at EP: Restrictions on Muslim Women’s Dress in the 28 EU Member States
  • On April 25 2018, EFOMW participated in a launch report event at the European Parliament. Event was organised by the European Parliament Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup (ARDI) with aim to present the report written by Open Society Justice Initiative(OSJI) on restrictions on Muslim women’s dress in the EU.

The report 'Restrictions on Muslim Women’s Dress in the 28 EU Member States' maps laws and legal developments restricting religious dress, specifically the headscarf and face veil worn by Muslim women, in the 28 countries of the European Union. (Country-by-country, this study examines relevant laws, bylaws, and case law, as well as political platforms, legislative proposals, and public discourse. It also covers restrictions in employment, education, services, and public space.)

At the event it was presented how laws, local regulations, and formal practices prohibiting the wearing of religious dress—in employment, education, services, and in public space—result in Muslim women being disproportionality prevented from exercising their rights.

Speakers at the event included officers from the Open Society Justice Initiative, European Network Against Racism (ENAR), lawyers, members of the European Parliament with more.

More about the event you can read at the ARDI's website and at the Open Society Foundations website
