Women Against Islamophobia
Brussels 2nd March 2016, 13:00-15:00
The consequences of Islamophobia on the social, political and economic
lives of Muslim women and the need for immediate action to guarantee European Muslim women full equality.
The well-being of any democracy is measured in how its minorities are
included. In recent decades we have in different ways experienced a
gradual downplaying of civil rights, liberties and equality of European Muslim
women. Still, we lack a strategy that corresponds to the seriousness of this
issue.
As Islamophobia is a growing problem, we are at the same time witnessing a
growing denial of its presence in European societies.
The fact that
Islamophobia is not a Muslim problem, but a European one, cannot be stressed
enough. We are in the middle of a state of emergency that needs dealing with
sooner rather than later.
In order to raise these issues the hearing will
be held in the European Parliament on the 2nd of March 2016, 13:00-15:00, hosted by MEP Soraya Post (S&D).
As International Women's Day approaching it is time to pay attention to
women's rights.
Take part of politicians’, feminist representatives’, European Muslim human
rights activists’ and academic experts’ call for immediate action to guarantee
Europe’s Muslim women full equality and a life free from discrimination and
hate.
